Job Overview

 

This role will ensure the continuing regulatory compliance of ingredients, products, labelling and advertising for Britvic Ireland brands, to minimise the risks to the Irish business and reputation and best support commercial advantage for all brands.

This person will provide commercially focused product regulatory activities for the business through the provision of accurate, consistent and compliant advice.

You will use initiative and respond clearly and effectively to queries from different departments within the business whilst safeguarding Britvic’s brands and reputation.

Liaise and collaborate with internal Britvic stakeholders including Marketing, Commercial, Corporate Affairs and Legal as required.

As part of the day to day you will liaise with external stakeholders and agencies,

engage on behalf of Britvic Ireland at external Trade Associations and Key Opinion Leader meetings.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Monitor all relevant regulatory and legislative developments across Ireland, the EU and UK/Northern Ireland that could impact Britvic Ireland. Ensure timely communication of potential impacts and required actions to the wider business and key stakeholders.
  • Contribute to developing Company policies and guidelines in response to new and changing food and drink legislation.
  • Work with Corporate Affairs team to shape our response to Regulatory trends and issues.
  • Negotiate on matters of composition, labelling and compliance of products with regulatory authorities, where required.
  • Provide leadership and guidance on Irish, European & UK legislative requirements to Britvic Ireland stakeholders as required, ensuring legal compliance of current products and shaping the development of new innovative products with novel ingredients.
  • Responsibility for ensuring product composition and labelling for Britvic Ireland brands, including products from new mergers & acquisitions comply with the relevant regulations and company policies.
  • Support brands in developing commercially relevant claims and product messaging, whilst ensuring our products comply with all relevant regulations.
  • Advise on sustainability claims and supporting evidence required to ensure compliance with current and emerging regulatory requirements.
  • Provide regulatory support to Marketing to ensure the compliance of product communications across advertising, digital and point of sale items.
  • Serve as an active member of the Irish Technical Activity Executive providing oversight to ensure all projects advancing through the stage & gate process are fully compliant with all applicable regulatory standards.
  • Assist in compilation of pack copy and approve labels, as required.
  • Answer enquiries of a technical, nutrition and specification nature and requests for product information as required.
  • Direct line management for the Specifications Technologist, with accountability for ensuring that all raw materials, packaging components, and finished product formulations are fully compliant with Britvic Ireland’s internal specifications and all applicable regulatory standards.
  • Provide guidance, training and support to Britvic Ireland personnel, as required, to enable them to approve Company ingredients and products against legislative requirements and wider teams to improve understanding of labelling and claims requirements.

 

 

Requirements

 

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of Irish, EU and GB food and drink Legislation, its’ development and implementation is essential.
  • Proven EU Regulatory Affairs experience within a food or drink FMCG related organisation.
  • A high level of attention to detail, taking responsibility for day to day tasks and processes.
  • Agile and an ability to work under pressure and being able to manage competing demands.
  • Self-motivation and the ability to work independently when required.
  • Strong persuasion, influencing and communication skills to help drive the development of company strategy and policy, and influence Trade Associations and Regulators as required.
  • The ability to distil complex technical and legislative issues so that they can be readily understood by non-technical audiences is essential.
  • Understanding of the composition of soft drinks and the technical purpose of the ingredients used in them is desirable.
  • Active membership and experience of participation in food industry bodies such as IBEC, FDI, UNESDA (Union of European Beverage Associations), BCI (Beverage Council Ireland) is desirable.

  Education/Qualifications

 

  • A degree in a scientific or technical discipline preferably with a Food Science or Food Technology bias or equivalent experience is required.
  • A Post-Graduate Certificate in Food Law (or equivalent) is desirable.
