Packaging Development Manager

The Packaging Development Manager is responsible for maximising business benefits for Irish projects with packaging technology development across make, market, sell and enabling.

You will execute flawless delivery of the annual operating plan (AOP), Sustainability Plan and Value Engineering plan through project leadership and management of the packaging work streams within the supply chain function. You will ensure that robust technical packaging expertise is applied to gain competitive advantage and ensure packaging solutions are delivered right first time.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create effective partnerships with Marketing, Supply Chain and Suppliers to enable flawless project delivery of key business objectives
  • Lead technical input on packaging development projects from concept and brief to commercialisation
  • Ensure all project work is compliant with the Britvic technical processes and legal requirements related to packaging
  • Ensure all projects are delivered considering the businesses sustainability strategy.
  • Provide technical packaging expertise to support the factories and key supply chain objectives
  • Project manage the packaging work stream for specific packaging development and cost saving projects that involve multi-disciplinary project teams
  • Provide direction & leadership to project teams across all levels of the business
  • Plan, execute and report on trials to support the technical programme
  • Create testing plans and reports
  • Develop and maintain accurate packaging specifications and methods, ensuring that they are statistically validated
  • Understand the risk profile of the packaging solution and actively manage the associated packaging risks and mitigation actions
  • Contribute to a continuous program of product value engineering that focuses on packaging costs but maintains or improves packaging quality
  • Implement and contribute to the packaging development strategy
  • Establish external relationships in order to maximise competitive advantage
  • Maintain an excellent knowledge of packaging, production techniques, trends and competitors, keeping abreast of new technologies
  • Lead, develop and support the packaging development technologists within the technical function

Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required:

  • Technical packaging development and project leadership experience with track record of delivering results is essential
  • Technical knowledge in a range of packaging materials (glass, plastic, paper and metal)
  • Strong knowledge of the relationship of product, process, packaging equipment and packaging material.
  • Experience of working with manufacturing departments driving cross functional project teams is essential
  • Accomplished IT Skills using Microsoft suite of programs (including MS Project) are essential
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, specifically relationship building, facilitation, written / verbal communication is essential
  • Strong leadership and management skills are desirable
  • Core understanding of beverage/FMCG packaging processing & manufacturing
  • Accomplished IT Skills using Microsoft suite of programs (including MS Project), Packaging specification and Quality systems are essential
  • Creates fresh and innovative approaches to overcome challenges
  • Good communication, influencing and collaboration skills

Qualifications:

  • Honours Degree or Equivalent in Science or Engineering is essential
  • Relevant Packaging Qualifications are desirable
  • Project Management Qualifications are desirable
