About the Role:
The Packaging Development Technologist is responsible for delivery of packaging initiatives and projects for assigned brands/portfolios within the Business Unit.
Manage small to medium size Packaging initiatives and projects within the Business Unit with guidance from more senior colleagues., execute flawless delivery and work effectively with cross functional project teams on the execution of the portfolio strategy
You will own the development of some packaging work processes and systems and provide day to day support for all packaging related activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for writing and Managing project documentation related design and control documentation (e.g. Design brief, supplier brief, and specifications)
- Developing and executing package testing plans
- Validate designs through to full scale manufacturing at a Britvic’s manufacturing site, or contract packer
- Create effective partnerships with Marketing, Quality, Supply Chain, Procurement and Suppliers to enable flawless project delivery of key objectives
- Provide technical input on packaging development projects from concept and brief to commercialisation
- Ensure all project work assigned is delivered on time, on budget and that the Britvic stage gates and success criteria are met (including FMEA, DQVV etc)
- First point of contact for all technical packaging queries for assigned projects and initiatives
- Liaise with manufacturing, contract Packers, procurement and Packaging suppliers in order to support cost saving/compliance/sustainability/business continuity projects
- Plan, execute and report on trials to support the technical programme and more senior packaging team members
- Ensure (FDA) REACH, GMP and HSE compliance in all functional activities, including the creation of testing plans and reports
- Support Quality/compliance activities on assigned complaint investigations, RCA and change management
- Develop and maintain accurate packaging specifications and methods, ensuring that they are statistically validated
- Support the implementation of Packaging systems and IT tools (e.g. Packaging specification database, Product Vision etc)
- With guidance from more senior members of the packaging team, understand the risk profile of the packaging solution and actively manage the associated packaging risks and mitigation actions
- Continuously look for ways to improve packaging utilisation and packing line efficiency
- Maintain a good knowledge of packaging, production techniques, trends and competitors, keeping abreast of new technologies
- Be aware of the environmental impact of packaging initiatives and work to minimise them
Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required:
- Technical packaging development and some project leadership experience with track record of delivering results is desired
- Technical knowledge in a range of packaging materials (glass, plastic, paper and metal)
- Base knowledge of the relationship of product, process, packaging equipment and packaging material.
- Experience of working with manufacturing departments within cross functional project teams is desired
- Accomplished IT Skills using Microsoft suite of programs (including MS Project), Packaging specification and Quality systems are essential
- Well-developed interpersonal skills, specifically relationship building, facilitation, written / verbal communication are essential
- Experience in Packaging Development/Engineering (FMCG/Pharma) (desired)
- Creates fresh and innovative approaches to overcome challenges
- Investigates opportunities that positively separate Britvic from its competitors
- Good communication & collaboration skills
- Swiftly responds to ensure projects are delivered to plan
Qualifications:
- Honours or Degree Equivalent in Science or Engineering is desirable
- Relevant Packaging Qualifications are desirable
- Lean Manufacture/Six Sigma desirable
