About the Role:
Shift manger responsibility for the effective and efficient operation of a highly automated 24 / 7 Production and bottling Department. Leading a Shift team of up to 18 Operators.
Full ownership and accountability on shift for the department’s performance against agreed targets and key performance indicators (KPIs) ensuring continuous improvement across all key operational metrics.
Achieved through quality people and quality processes with effective engagement and development of shift team members in a lean manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities:
Production and Packing
- Take a proactive approach to managing all aspects of production and packing on shift identifying and supporting opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Monitor all process controls points on a continuous basis taking appropriate action as necessary to optimise and maintain product specification whilst maximising line efficiencies and minimising waste.
- Escalate any process or quality issue that cannot be adequately addressed by changes within normal operating parameters.
- Monitoring and accurately recording usage, yield, quality, and efficiency data to accurately track plant performance vs targets and budget and deliver planned production at the required quality.
- Ensure timely and accurate records are maintained and that all operational checks are carried out and documented.
- Reviewing and analysing trends and proactively reporting results and actions.
- Support the maintenance team to deliver best practice asset care through correct operation of process equipment and early escalation and resolution of potential issues.
- Inform maintenance of potential and actual mechanical problems and follow through to completion to avoid and minimise downtime.
- Promote effective problem solving involving all team members through the use of a formal structured process. Recording the issue, thought process and actions identified and delivered. Managing performance where necessary through a formal structured process
- Identify improvement opportunities to improve safety, quality and operational efficiency including waste minimisation.
- Lead on agreed continuous improvement initiates using structured LEAN tools.
- Support the Production Manager in the preparation and delivery of annual operating budgets.
- Ensure that our service level meets our customers’ expectations.
- Manage EWM system ensuring compliance at all stages of the process.
- Complete special projects and assignments as requested.
People
- Provide clear leadership to the shift production team developing a culture of engagement through involvement.
- Set clear standards and expectations for each direct report and hold them accountable for delivery.
- Coach and develop direct reports through regular one-to-ones and a formal performance review process.
- Ensure all shift Operators have received effective and formal training appropriate for the role.
- Ensure effective competency assessment against PSOPs through a structured formal assessment programme.
- Develop personal development plans for each shift member to enhance their skills and knowledge to maximise contribution from both individual and team and to maximise their personal growth and development.
- Respond appropriately in accordance with Company procedures to any employee who raises a complaint or grievance.
- Manage shift holidays and absenteeism within the department, arranging cover for absences as required.
- Undertaking effective return to work meetings in accordance with Company procedure
Communication
- Lead daily shift briefings as part of the Britvic visual management process encouraging engagement and interaction providing 2-way feedback.
- Prepare comprehensive shift reports detailing department performance vs targets and standards and ensuring adequate and appropriate detail and explanation on any variances and the corrective action taken.
- Ensure effective shift handover at Shift Manager and individual Operator level.
- Communicate directly and appropriately with Quality and Maintenance teams.
Quality
- Work closely with QA Shift Technician to ensure correct clean down and site GMP standards are achieved and maintained within the department.
- Monitor product code specifications to ensure good quality is consistently achieved.
- Monitor product quality continuously and react and report where issues arise that may affect HACCP protocols, involving Quality Team and Management
- Ensure that all food safety and CCP procedures are observed and report any issues that may constitute a hygiene or safety risk.
Health, Safety & Hygiene
- Proactively support the on-going development of safety through effective leading KPIs
- Progressively make the work environment safer through Risk assessments, hazard registers and elimination of hazards in the workplace.
Environmental
- Ensure all Production Operatives are fully aware of site environmental standards and ensure production processes operate in accordance with the requirements of ISO) and the site operating licence.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required:
- Experience in a Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) environment including previous experience as a team leader/shift manager or equivalent with proven leadership skills.
- Appetite to drive safety improvements through team engagement and company HSE initiatives.
- Keen technical mindset with a desire to continuously improve people, process and machine.
- Experience of driving lean manufacturing principles for both cost effectiveness and team engagement.
- Strong ability to work in a team, whilst being able to lead, work on own initiatives and delegate to other functions. Clear communication to all levels including to Leadership team.
- Strong computer skills incl. Microsoft Office, SAP and WMS
