Recent & impending government legislation designed to tackle rising childhood obesity in the UK will restrict advertising, promotional and display practices that are intended to encourage the purchase of foods High in Fat, Sugar or Salt (HFSS). HFSS will impact all impulse categories at different levels and some categories will be more impacted that others. The Soft Drinks category, the largest of all impulse categories, is more HFSS compliant that snacks, biscuits and confectionery. 


Retailers are exploring ways to balance sales growth while complying with the government agenda and will partner with expert suppliers to maximise opportunities, founded on key category and shopper insight. The Soft Drinks category is in a good place to capture incremental sales and Britvic, with a portfolio c80% HFSS compliant, is in a prime position to lead the HFSS agenda and partner with key retailers. 

 

This newly created Channel Development Manager position will be responsible for translating our overarching shopper strategy into channel activities that help turn HFSS into a key opportunity for Britvic and the total Soft Drinks category. These strategies and activities will enable us to partner with key retailers and enhance our strong customer relationships and demonstrate unrivalled category and shopper thought-leadership. This will drive mutual benefit for both retailers and Britvic, with incremental category growth for our customers and clear advantage for our brands, whilst growing shareholder value and enhancing Britvic’s reputation.


In conjunction with the Head of Shopper Strategy and Insights, this role will also be at the centre of embedding HFSS understanding and shopper-based thinking across the business.  This will expand our external influence beyond key customers through a well-informed and engaged Customer Management team that understand the benefit of executing our HFSS growth activities with customers. 
This role is central to our planning and execution of commercial initiatives, therefore strong links will be required across the Category Strategy, Category Management, Shopper Marketing, Customer Management, Commercial Strategy and Marketing teams. This role will report to the Head of Shopper Strategy & Insights and has two direct reports: Shopper Marketing Executive HFSS and Category Analyst HFSS.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required:
•    Relevant category management, category development, category strategy, channel development or other strategic experience, preferably in an FMCG business, with a track record of successfully driving category, brand and NPD growth. 
•    Expertise in developing strategic category development activities and working with teams to deliver them with customers, with the right balance of strategic thinking and execution.
•    Analytical ability to turn strategic insights into execution
•    Strong story-telling (written and presentation skills) to engage and influence others to implement your recommendations
•    Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage a wide network of stakeholders (internal and external) and influence at the right level.
•    Experience of working with multiple customers, possibly across different channels and in different category missions such as On The Go and Take Home. 
•    Experience working across different channels e.g. Grocery, Convenience, Foodservice, Licensed, Online
•    Strong planning, organisation and time management skills
