About the Role:

The Commercial Accountant team leader is responsible for the accounting and reporting of the trade investment (ie rebates/discounts) spends across all routes to market in GB and Ireland. 

The Commercial Accountant team leader will also be responsible for:
•    Supporting Period-end activities and financial reporting
•    Owning the day to day relationship and delivery of numbers to Commercial Finance
•    Working closely with the AR and SOPS function to assist shortpay process
•    Supporting any IT upgrade projects as necessary during the year
•    Managing the half year and full year external audit process for the investment lines
•    Ad hoc requests to support the Commercial Accounting Manager (CAM)


This role is for an experienced commercial accountant, with responsibility for the management and development of 2 part-qualified members of staff.

Key Responsibilities:
•    Responsible for the accuracy of the investment lines balances in GB and Ireland
•    Responsible for the preparation of robust and timely period end accounts for all investment lines across GB and Ireland in line with the group timetable reporting to the CAM.
•    Responsibility for period end reconciliations for investment balance sheet accounts with fully supported and adequate documentation 
•    Responsibility for the preparation of the Commercial scorecard on trade investment, adjustments and shortpay.
•    Support for the Customer Claims register and the overseeing of the audit claim process in conjunction with Customer Management Team
•    Support the corrective workaround and resolution of system issues impacting rebates areas
•    Supporting the implementation of Kantar in FY21-FY22

Business Partnering 

•    Day to day relationship with Channel Finance Managers
•    Take an active part in FARs along with SOPs, Channel Finance and CDMs
•    Provide appropriate financial support and guidance as required to CDMs/SOPS team
•    Development of a relationship with customer management across Ireland and International to help embed new ways of working and process improvements to ensure consistency across all areas.
•    Delivery of training to drive process compliance and best practice to the commercial functions

Audit & Control
•    Identify opportunities for process improvement to improve efficiency and control
•    Responsibility for Providing all necessary material for the external audit in relation to investment spend GB and Ireland


Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required:

•    Good understanding of financial & accounting principles
•    Advanced Excel skills
•    Good communicator – able to clearly articulate finance concepts to non-finance colleagues
•    Systems: MS Office, Solid skills with accounting software such as SAP R3 and BW
•    Proactive rather than reactive with a personable communication style 
•    Ability to identify an issue and problem solve through to resolution
•    Operates with discipline
•    Ability to challenge the business partners
•    Highly organised and reliable
•    Background in FMCG preferable – retailer or manufacturer

ACCA or CIMA Qualified (min 1 year post qualified experience)
