About the Role:

This role is principally responsible for delivering activity in support of the R&D Sustainable Packaging Strategy across the global business. The R&D Packaging Technologist will apply their broad knowledge materials, sustainability and technology to enable more sustainable packaging development. The purpose is to develop innovative and cost-effective packaging solutions that contribute to our overall brand propositions and Corporate Sustainability goals. The role will partner with Corporate Comms, Procurement, Technical and Marketing teams to create and deliver projects that provide both attractive consumer propositions and ensure we embed sustainability into our pack design for the future.

This role will sit within our Research & Development team, reporting to the R&D Sustainable Packaging Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

Supporting the delivery of the Britvic Packaging Sustainability strategy, with ownership of the delivery of defined elements of the plan.

Propose and lead projects with suppliers and academic partners on the development of new packaging solutions which improve Britvic’s position on sustainable packaging, such as recyclability, use of recycled content and low carbon materials

Work with internal and external partners on material science projects & initiatives that will support the delivery of Britvic’s long-term ambition.

Propose, plan and organize industrial trials.

Work closely with the beyond the bottle team to support projects and initiatives that provide new packaging formats and ground-breaking ways to deliver soft drinks required by the business to support growth into new RTM and consumer occasions.

Develop packaging data analysis insights based on internal data and produce internal and external packaging sustainability reports

Working with key internal stakeholders & external contacts, relating to sustainability and recycling standards, as well as regulatory compliance.

Use initiative and respond clearly and effectively to queries from different departments within the business on packaging sustainability and regulatory queries.

Liaise with external partners and suppliers regarding packaging compliance and development

Represent Britvic in relevant trade associations and their committees, handling packaging and packaging sustainability.

Build and maintain a network of contacts within sustainability, food/beverage and packaging industries.

Build collaborative cross functional working relationships to deliver a high level of service to the business.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required:

Minimum of 2 years packaging experience in the food/drinks industry or FMCG environment.

Knowledge of packaging materials used in the soft drinks industry and an overview of emerging technologies that could support the sustainability plan.

Knowledge on packaging recycling and life cycle assessment

Academic, work experience or research skills/experience in material science (alternative polymers)

Ability to propose creative solutions for sustainable packaging challenges using a pragmatic business approach.

Ability to interpret information in a clear and concise manner.

Ability to balance workload under pressure and being able to manage competing demands.

A high level of attention to detail, taking responsibility for day to day tasks and processes.

Self-motivation and the ability to work independently when required.

Effective communicator at all levels.

Strong analytical skills; both quantitative and qualitative.

Good organisational skills and the capability to manage multiple projects.

Flexibility to travel as and when required.

Experience in working with multi-functional teams.

Intermediate/advanced excel level (pivot tables, formulas)

Preferable SAP experience
