About the Role:

We are looking for a Head of Liquid Development, based in our Hemel Hempstead office, within our Strategic & Marketing Innovation function.

You will help drive commercial growth for Britvic by leading a team focused on strategic liquid innovation research which will deliver differentiating technology, capability and sustainability.

You will be leading a team that develops and delivers new soft drinks from concept to commercialisation across our global product portfolio, focussed on consumer need market trends. You will also Lead our small scale liquid manufacturing infrastructure consisting of product development lab and a world leading pilot line based at our Beckton factory.

We are looking for someone to:

•Have great vision and demonstrate outstanding leadership skills through implementing technical innovation strategy including open innovation partnerships and securing innovation funding.

•Manage a large team of formulators, liquid processing experts and small scale infrastructure managers.

•Partner with commercial functions to deliver projects from concept to commercialisation with a global focus.

•Develop a transformational liquid product strategy which drives innovation into Britvic and addresses future business threats and opportunities over the next 3 – 5 years.

Key Responsibilities:

•Be part of a Senior Leadership Team contributing to the overall technical strategy and working collaboratively to create a world class technical function.

•Build a world class R&D technical team contributing to Britvic’s business growth and its participation strategy delivering profitability and improving standards of excellence.

•Provide liquid development leadership at a on complex liquid initiatives at a global level, partnering with our technical teams based in France, Ireland and Brazil and provide liquid support and direction to the development of future marketing plans and impacting multiple manufacturing sites.

•Work with commercial and technical insight leaders to ensure that liquid consumer insights are developed and built into our brands.

•Lead, coach, manage, mentor and support team members through Britvic DNA enabling teams to deliver excellent performance.

•Lead major liquid development programmes and collaborate with other functions (notably procurement, consumer insights, marketing, business operations, engineering and quality) to identify and deliver strategies which improve consumer experience, compliance and quality of our liquids across the brands.

•Oversee team resource and budget allocation to the Britvic annual operation plan and innovation pipeline.

•Champion understanding of consumer insights and brand strategy, ensuring the team build this into liquid design via a partnership approach with marketing and consumer insights.

•Identify and manage risks associated to the annual operation plan, supply chain and industry threats.

•Ensure the teams projects are delivered on time, on budget and that the Britvic stage gates and success criteria are met.

•Lead continuous improvement activities related to ways of working, efficiency and project delivery performance.

•Identify novel and exciting new liquid technologies for the soft drinks industry, ensure the team work closely with suppliers, third party research companies and designers and universities to build capability and strategy by identifying current and future packaging needs/trends.

•Ensure world leading technologies are not IP infringed and gain IP protection where relevant.

•Ensure quality, regulatory and HSE compliance in all functional activities, including the creation of testing plans and reports.

•Ensure the team develop accurate liquid specifications and methods, ensuring that they are statistically validated and compliant.

•Work with the technical senior leadership team collaboratively to create a world class technical function.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required:

•Extensive experience in senior product development, process development and innovation roles within a branded FMCG environment

•Proven leadership skills with the ability to coach and develop an end to end product development team.

•Experience driving efficiency and collaboration across a broad functional department.

•A track record of delivering new products and breakthrough innovations from inception to commercialisation including grant funding application.

•Knowledge and experience of novel ingredient research and development.

•Experience in managing or using small scale infrastructure, for example labs and pilot lines.

•Solid understanding of supply chain and FMCG manufacturing.

•Skilful in identifying potential issues early and supporting teams to form credible risk reduction plans.

•Demonstrated stills in forming strong external networks with external research companies, suppliers and universities for the purpose of strategic research.

•Accomplished IT skills using Microsoft suite of programs and administration skills.

•Understanding of regulatory and quality compliance requirements.

•Great relationship management skills, strong influencing, facilitation, negotiation, stakeholder management, written and verbal communication.

•Degree in relevant science discipline or Chemical Engineering.
