As a laboratory technician within R&D your role will be spent working alongside and supporting our innovation scientists and product developers in our implementation teams. You will enable the journey from idea to product solution for both new launches and improvements to existing products. Your primary responsibilities will include lab scale production which requires focus and attention to detail to deliver right first time.

Prepare and test lab batches to assure that they are made exactly to specification for the purposes of stability testing, sensory profiling, consumer research and factory validation.

Maintain the stock of laboratory consumables.

Maintain all raw material libraries and ensure libraries are up-to-date on costings and supplier

information working closely with procurement.

Maintain preparation and testing equipment in the Product Development lab(s).

Book samples in with the micro and analyitical teams for analysis.

Ensure that the laboratory, storerooms and equipment are maintained to the appropriate hygiene and housekeeping standards supporting 5S.

Create and maintain Lab SOPs and ensure documentation alignment with the wider technical team.

Work with the innovation, product development and pilot plant teams to ensure efficient novel

ingredient processing and scale up.

Provide training as part of the lab induction for new lab users.

Complete RCA in order to problem solve and trouble shoot.

Ensure that all work is carried out in compliance with the company standards, Quality Management systems and specifications and that good laboratory and hygiene practises are maintained. All elements of the role must be carried out in a safe manner and conform to health and safety requirements

Knowledge of laboratory operation and use of laboratory equipment & processing is essential.

Experienced in performing routine analytical testing methods to support product accuracy.

Experienced in food processing and have an appreciation for the various processing methods to assure
-
food safety.

Appreciation of ingredient functionality and the role of ingredients in product matrices.

Understand GMP and food and beverage regulations.
-
Experienced in 5S
-
Understanding of root cause analysis to problem solve and fault find.
-
Experience of HACCP and COSHH.
-
Working knowledge of IT systems such as MS Office essential.

Experienced in effective time management, with the ability to prioritise accordingly
