About the Role:


This role is part of the Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) team based in Hemel Hempstead. It is a central role managing the performance reporting, forecasting, budgeting and planning processes of the group such that these enable us to deliver our performance ambitions through informed choices and trade-off decisions.

The key to success in this role is being able to move swiftly from the commentator and consolidator of performance to instead being the the story teller and driver of performance.

The key stakeholders for the role are primarily the Chief Financial Officer, Strategy & Planning Director and Director of FP&A for whom you will be creating the story of performance and their presentations to be delivered at the PLC Executive & Board meetings. This will involve developing many touch points in the wider business, including Business Unit Finance Directors and other FP&A members to develop insight and choices.

You will work alongside Investor Relations at key points in the year to ensure the performance story is accurately reflected in our external communications. You will also work closely with our new Reporting Centre of Excellence (shared services) to deliver quality reporting on time and in full that suits the changing end user requirements.

The role has direct line management for one FP&A manager who is mainly focused on group cash flow and capital expenditure.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Ownership of the PLC Exec & Board Management Information Packs (MIP), ensuring they are delivered on time and in full, with appropriate levels of insight and information against our strategic objectives, not just the financial statements.
  • Creating the performance & planning presentations for the primary stakeholders (e.g. CFO)
  • Coordinating the group forecasting & budgeting processes and information requirements in conjunction with the Business Unit & Functional teams.
  • Linking the internal performance narrative with the external requirements, working alongside Investor Relations.
  • Developing improved cash flow and capital reporting with the FP&A Manager
  • Delivering insightful information and presentations to various governance forums, such as the Capital Committee.
  • Line management and development of an FP&A Manager


Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required:

  • Strong business & financial awareness, understanding levers to drive revenue & profit is essential.
  • Excellent communication skills:
    • Verbal – ability t succinctly summarise performance and actions
    • Written – careful dcumentation and instructions that are clear and unambiguous, particularly for people where English is not their first language
    • Presentatinal – able to convey complex material in a simple and impactful ways
  • Excellent PowerPoint and Excel skills – being able to manipulate large data sets and convey complex information, showing the minimum to get your key message across without distraction
  • A very high attention to detail (e.g. PLC Board presentations are a matter of company record).
  • Experience of fast-moving consumer goods is desirable.
  • Experience in using external data to complement financial data is desirable
