R&D Pilot Plant Technician

About the Role:
As a Pilot Plant Technician, you will be joining the Pilot Plant team which sits within the R&D Product Development Team. You will be working in a production environment at our Beckton site. Through your experience and knowledge, you will help the Pilot Plant ongoing operation approach and continuous improvement to enable R&D trials and commercial saleable production for seed brands or test market as required by the Britvic annual operating plan (AOP). It is anticipated that 50% of the utilisation will be for R&D and the other 50% for commercial saleable production.  

 

As a Pilot Plant Technician you will work closely with the Pilot Plant Manager to
Run the operation of the equipment for trials and commercial production
Maintain the equipment and provide critical engineering repair in case of breakdown.
Build a strong working relationship with the R&D team & PLC Quality team as a whole, and fully integrate in the Product Development Implementation team.
Build good rapport with OEM, planners, Operations team members and OEMs to ensure a good working relationship and effective communication at all times
Create and maintain Pilot plant SOPs and ABRAS for the Pilot Plant Equipment to ensure safe working practices and training documentation
Support in the maintenance of the 5S system in the Pilot Plant
Support in the maintenance of high standards of hygiene and food safety within the Pilot Plant

 

Key Responsibilities:
Manufacture syrups and run the liquid in final packaging, using our SAP system for process order generations all the way through finished goods booking in.
Complete Quality checks of Syrup, full goods and packaging materials and highlight any out of specification results.
Complete accurate and high-quality documentation providing a full audit trail. 
Responsible for the planning and schedules for calibration and verification of critical equipment within the pilot plant
You will be responsible for the ongoing development, planning and execution of the CIL & maintenance program by applying your engineering knowledge and maintenance experiences.
Using strong engineering and developing operational knowledge, you will be involved in providing technical options and solutions which support the delivery of new products, savings, product optimisation.
Managing stock location of packaging and raw materials ensuring that these are available when needed for trial/commercial production.Build great partnerships with R&D, Supply Chain and Suppliers. Influencing and provide direction enabling the cross-functional teams to meet projects objectives.
Support production and scale up of new formulas via a strong understanding of the operational processing conditions at both pilot and full scale working hand in hand with the product development teams for development work.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required:
5+ years’ experience working within FMCG engineering departments with multiskilled qualifications, Electrical essential (PLC Desirable)
Confident practical engineering skills allowing you to maintain, adapt and optimise production equipment are essential. 
Practical knowledge of equipment operation and operational practices is essential. 
Ability to write and implement effective CIL, Maintenance plans, SOP’s and production standards is essential. 
Well-developed interpersonal skills. Relationship building, written / verbal communication skills are essential.
A flexible style allowing you to work with multiple internal and external stakeholders, partners and direct reports in an adaptive way is required. 
Specific knowledge of food and drink production is desired.
Accomplished IT Skills using Microsoft office.

Qualifications:
NVQ3, HND or equivalent engineering qualifications (Electrical and Mechanical)
Relevant Quality, HS&E and Factory operations qualifications are desirable.
