About the Role:


To ensure overall performance of the production lines/area whilst adhering to all Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental requirements.  This is achieved through application of engineering competency in reviewing overall equipment performance, developing appropriate maintenance improvement strategies and implementing these through the site team and supporting engineering companies.  All this should be achieved within the existing cost constraints of the business to ensure the best value for money in equipment reliability.


Key Responsibilities:


-Assist in implementing and maintaining a planned maintenance system across the site with appropriate budgetary control.

-Assist in the implementation of the maintenance schedules to ensure that all plant is fully maintained in optimum condition to ensure that company downtime reduction, plant reliability and OEE improvement are delivered.

-Assist in implementation of all existing and new Health & Safety legislation, ensuring adequate staff training on these matters.

-Drive energy, asset care and maintenance cost reduction across the site.  Actively participate in utility consumption reduction initiatives.

-Maintain effective relationships with manufacturing plant suppliers and OEM’s.

-Assist in developing, in-conjunction with the OEM, periodic maintenance and inspection schedules and an annual planned maintenance (APM) programme.

-Carry out duties in a responsible manner giving due consideration to Health, Safety, Environmental & Quality procedures, which are part of the Integrated Management System.  Contribute to the health & safety of self and others by applying health and safety principles to the required standards whilst undertaking designated tasks.


-Adhere to Legal and Statutory Requirements, where applicable, inclusive of PUWER, Electricity at Work, DSEAR, PSSR, COSHH, LOLER, CDM, Asbestos, Ionising Radiation, Confined Spaces, Work at -Height (this list is not exhaustive).

-Actively take ownership of overall reliability performance for the site.  This should include accountability for any line/area performance KPI's (i.e. Reliability targets, etc.).

-Have knowledge of, and actively use, the site Lean Principles (e.g. RCM, RCA, PDCA -  Problem Solving Techniques, 5S, 5-Why? etc).

-Drive performance improvements using problem solving, process optimisation and Continuous


Improvement activities.

-Plan, facilitate and drive CI activities along with relevant teams (e.g. Project Team, Shift Team Members, and External Suppliers).  Eliminate problem Root Cause and define best practice and procedures. Participate and contribute to Continuous Improvement and Zero Loss Activity.

-Work with Operational and Quality departments to develop and deliver improvement plans to support achievement of the overall Production Strategy.

-Provide technical and 'hands-on' support/assistance to the Shift Engineers as required, including technical support/assistance for out-of-hours issues (where escalated using the relevant procedure).

-Provide information to the area budget holder for any maintenance spend incurred.  Support the creation of budgets on an annual basis.

-Ensure that correct and adequate spares are stocked for the lines/area maintenance function and support the control of the optimum stock level value.  Where required, work with the engineering

stores team to source and order the relevant spare parts as required.  Also ensure that refurbished spares are turned around in a timely manner.  Liaise with suppliers to achieve approved levels of service at competitive costs.

-Populate the Planned Maintenance System (SAP PM) as required. In conjunction with the PM Planner, play an active role in the planning and distribution of the PM/CM tasks to the Shift Engineers/Production Unit Managers and prioritise tasks to suit production requirements.

Assist in planning, organising and carrying out shutdown work (as part of asset care windows and APM’s), including liaising with and organising external suppliers and service providers.

-Support insurance/statutory inspections as required.

-Ensure engineering SOP’s and ABRA’s are produced as required, and are kept up to date.

-Maintain drawing and documentation control for any changes or modifications carried out.

-Establish effective relationships with internal and external customers – continually liaise with operational teams to enhance communication and establish any issues.

-Support all team members and develop positive relationships with colleagues through effective communication and feedback – openly share knowledge and experience throughout the department.


Play a key role in the development of team member’s skills and instil best practice.  Identify, develop and deliver coaching and training for Shift Team Members.

Carry out training as part of your individual ‘Personal Development Plan’, and in association with the GPS system.

-Certified Electrical Engineer / Certified Mechanical Engineer / Certified Multiskilled Engineer

-Ideally, multi-disciplined with a time-served apprenticeship in a manufacturing engineering environment

-NVQ Level 3 education or above, or proven equivalent experience

-Knowledge and demonstration of the relevant Quality, Health, Safety & Environmental aspects

-Good written and verbal communication skills

-Analytical coupled with practical skills

-IT literacy (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is essential

-SAP knowledge desirable

-FMCG industry experience desirable
