About the Role:
The Shift Manager is responsible for the effective and efficient operation of a highly automated 24/7 Production and bottling Department. Managing all of the day-to-day operations from raw material intake, through production to packaging.

 

You’ll have full ownership and accountability on shift for the department’s performance against agreed targets and key performance indicators (KPIs) ensuring continuous improvement across all key operational metrics.  This will be achieved through quality people and quality processes. 

 

A passion for leading, motivating and empowering people is essential as you will be responsible for a team of 18 Production Operators. You’ll enjoy developing your team effectively in a lean manufacturing environment. 


Key Responsibilities:
Production and Packing

  1. Take a proactive approach to managing all aspects of production and packing on shift identifying and supporting opportunities for continuous improvement. 
  2. Monitoring and accurately recording usage, yield, quality, and efficiency data to accurately track plant performance vs targets and budget and deliver planned production at the required quality. Manage EWM system ensuring compliance at all stages of the process.
  3. Ensure timely and accurate records are maintained and that all operational checks are carried out and documented.
  4. Promote effective problem solving involving all team members through the use of a formal structured process.  Recording the issue, thought process and actions identified and delivered.  Managing performance where necessary through a formal structured process 
  5. Lead on agreed continuous improvement initiates using structured LEAN tools.
  6. Ensure that our service level meets our customers’ expectations.

 

People

  1. Provide clear leadership to the shift production team developing a culture of engagement through involvement.
  2. Set clear standards and expectations for each direct report and hold them accountable for delivery.
  3. Develop personal development plans for each shift member to enhance their skills and knowledge to maximise contribution from both individual and team and to maximise their personal growth and development.
  4. Manage shift holidays and absenteeism within the department

 

Communication

  1. Prepare comprehensive shift & Shift Handover reports detailing department performance vs targets and standards and ensuring adequate and appropriate detail and explanation on any variances and the corrective action taken.
  2. Communicate directly and appropriately with Quality and Maintenance teams

 

Quality 

  1. Work closely with QA Technician to ensure correct clean down and site GMP standards are achieved and maintained within the department.
  2. Monitor product quality continuously and react and report where issues arise that may affect HACCP protocols, involving Quality Team and Management
  3. Ensure that all food safety and CCP procedures are observed and report any issues that may constitute a hygiene or safety risk.

 

Health, Environmental, Safety & Hygiene 

  1. Proactively support the on-going development of safety through effective leading KPIs
  2. Progressively make the work environment safer through Risk assessments, hazard registers and elimination of hazards in the workplace.
  3. Ensure that all staff are issued with, trained in and are using the correct PPE.
  4. Ensure that accidents and incidents are thoroughly investigated and escalated and that root causes of these are identified and eliminated through preventative measures.
  5. Ensure all E Learning and Health and safety training is filly complete for each team member. 


Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required:

  1. Previous experience of shift supervision and team leadership in a production or manufacturing environment
  2. Evidence of consistent achievement of production targets
  3. Food Manufacturing, Lean Manufacturing Production Schedules, Supervisory management
  4. Experience of SAP, Lean processing, 5 Whys and root cause analysis TPM & OEE
  5. Knowledge of production processes within the food/soft drinks production environment
  6. Excellent communication/interpersonal skills
  7. Ability to utilise resources effectively
  8. Able to display initiative and apply problem solving skills
  9. Strong organisation and planning skills with ability to prioritise effectively
  10. Teamwork oriented with leadership capability
  11. Adaptable to short- & long-term change
  12. DMAIC Six Sigma Belt, TPM & OEE knowledge
